Wellington Car Show Winter Edition

Tannery Wellington Car Show 7 April 2024 – Wintery Day

As car enthusiasts, we often brave all kinds of weather to showcase our beloved cars at a car show. However, on April 7, 2024, even the most seasoned car fans were in for a surprise at the Tannery Wellington Car Show. What was supposed to be a day of gleaming chrome and roaring engines turned into a battle against the elements when a freak storm descended upon us just as we were getting ready for the event.

At the start of the day, there was a sense of excitement in the air. Car owners carefully cleaned and shone their vehicles, ensuring every detail looked perfect under the warm Autumn sun. People, both participants and spectators, were gathering at the venue, eagerly anticipating a day of automotive excellence. However, none of us could have predicted the turn of events when Mother Nature decided to intervene.

“The Wellington Car Show Proceeded as Planned With a Morning Time Slot for Attendees to Enjoy.”

The parking lots started filling up with cars, and the highlight was a group of supercars from the supercar club: two McLarens, a Lamborghini Gallardo, a Maserati Granturismo, and a Jaguar F-type. Shortly after, two unannounced Ferraris joined the club: a rare Novitec Ferrari SF90 and a Ferrari 488 Pista with matt wrap. A couple of Alfa Romeos joined this group, creating a buzz amongst car viewers, with cameras furiously clicking away to catch a glimpse.

Audi Centre Paarl brought several cars: an Audi TTS Mk3 coupe, an Audi Q3 black edition, an Audi Q5 Sportback, and a Q2. Barbie, an Audi TT Mk2 coupe, and a rare silver Audi A2 were parked beside them.

Then Motovillage brought their showstoppers: a black Lamborghini Murcielago LP 640-4 coupe, a 2006 Bentley Continental GT with the W12 Motor, a 1975 Rolls Royce Silver Shadow 1, an Alfa Romeo GTV, and a 250 California Tribute ( Ferrari replica) that looked like the real thing but was based on a BMW Z3. The Lamborghini was a crowd pleaser with its low bellow from its naturally aspirated V12 and scissor-like opening doors.

We had several Toyota 86s parked in the main parking areas, a Lexus ISF, a modified Toyota Corolla, and a Ginetta race car. There were also a few VWs, including a VW bus that looked heaven-sent for the show. Mercedes Benz was represented by an S-class S600 and a few older models such as E-classes and a 380 SEC.

The weather played spoilsport during the festivities, and many registered attendees couldn’t make it due to the bad weather. However, the ones who turned up were treated to exquisite and stunning cars, making the day memorable. The event saw the formation of new friendships and tested loyalties, and we look forward to our next Wellington car show on 17 November 2024, which promises to be another fantastic event for the Western Cape.

Cleanest Car of the Day Award

Our cleanest car of the day award for the tannery Wellington car show was between the black & red VW bus and a black BMW 3 series. The three series won by a minimal margin, mainly due to the owner’s passion when displaying his vehicle. The prize was a lunch for four people at the Garagista brewery located at the old tannery.

As you can see from the gallery, we had various cars, ranging from old classics to contemporary supercars. Several clubs were present, including the Alfa Romeo Club, Mahindra Club, and Mercedes Benz Club, as well as a few muscle cars, so there was something for everyone, young and old. Despite the challenging weather conditions, these passionate petrol heads came out in full force to showcase their love for cars.
